Mary
Mother of God
We invite YOU to visit us Everyday
For: "Daily Inspiration for Today"
It's "Food for Thought"
Today's Verse:
( Matthew 16:25 )
Jesus Speaks about His Suffering and Death
For if you want to save your own life, you will lose it; but if you lose your life for my sake, you will find it.
Entrance Hymn:
Let Us Pray
Recite The Doxology:
Glory be to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Recite The Act of Contrition:
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I
detest in all my sins, not only because of the loss of heaven and the
pains of hell, but because they offended You, my God, who art all good
and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your
grace, to confess my sins, do penance, and amend my life. Amen.
Recite The Apostles Creed:
I
believe in God, the Father Almighty. Creator of heaven and earth. I
believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by
the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell, and on the
third day he rose again in ful- fillment of the scriptures. He ascended
into Heaven and sits at the right side of God the Father Almighty. He
will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy
Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.
Amen.
( Numbers 6:22-27 )
The Priestly Blessing
The Lord commanded Moses to tell Aaron and his sons to use the following words in blessing the people of Israel;
May the Lord bless you and take care of you; May the Lord be kind and gracious to you; May the Lord look on you with favor and give you peace.
And the Lord said, "If they pronounce my name as a blessing upon the people of Israel, I will bless them."
Alternate 1st Reading:
( Psalm 67:2-3, 5-6, 8 )
A Song of Thanksgiving
So that the whole world may know your will; so that all nations may know your salvation. May the people praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you!
May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you! The land has produced its harvest; God, our God, has blessed us.
God has blessed us; may all people everywhere honor him.
The 2nd Reading:
( Galatians 4:4-7 )
The Purpose of the Law
But when the right time finally came, God sent his own Son. He came as the son of a human mother and lived under the Jewish Law, so that we might become God's children.
To show that you are his children, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who cries out, "Father, my Father." So then, you are no longer a slave but a child. And since you are his child, God will give you all that he has for his children.
Today's Gospel According to:
( Luke 2:16-21 )
The Shepherds and the Angels
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph and saw the baby lying in the manger. When the shepherds saw him, they told them what the angel had said about the child. All who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said. Mary remembered all these things and thought deeply about them. The shepherds went back, singing praises to God for all they had heard and seen; it had been just as the angel had told them.
Jesus is Named
A week later, when the time came for the baby to be circum-cised, he was named Jesus, the name which the angel had given him before he had been conceived.
This is the word of the Lord
An Interpretation of Today's Readings & Gospel
( By Fr. Martin Pable, O.F.M. Cap )
Of all the titles by which we address Mary, the most profound and meaningful is "Mother of God." This is a daring, startling title. God, the creator of the whole universe, has a mother?
Indeed, controversy over this arose very early. In the fifth cen-tury, a prominent bishop named Nestorius taught that Mary was the mother only of the human nature of Christ. This view was quickly challenged by other bishops and theologians. So the ecumenical Council of Ephesus was convened in 431. The council concluded that since Jesus is but one Divine person, it is perfectly correct to name Mary the "Mother of God."
So the church begins every new year by celebrating this feast in honor of Mary. The title "Mother of God" does not imply that Mary herself is divine. It does mean that she is most worthy of our love, our gratitude and our confidence in her intercession. As we begin a new year, it is comforting to know that she will accompany us with her prayers and her motherly love.
Recite: The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom
come, Thy will be done, on earth as it tis in heaven. Give us this day
our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who
trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but, deliver us
from evil. Amen.
May the Peace of the Lord be with You
