Luke Bryan Aiming for No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart With 'What Makes You Country'

  Luke Bryan

Luke Bryan is aiming for the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 next week with his latest studio album What Makes You Country. Industry forecasters suggest the country star’s set, which was released on Dec. 9 through Capitol Nashville, could launch atop the list with perhaps 110,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Dec. 14.

If What Makes You Country starts at No. 1, it will mark Bryan’s fourth chart topper, and only the fourth country set to hit No. 1 in 2017. Earlier in the year, among country efforts, Kenny Chesney's Live in No Shoes Nation, Shania Twain's Now and Thomas Rhett's Life Changes all reached the top.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the new Dec. 30-dated Billboard 200 chart (where Bryan could debut at No. 1) is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, Dec. 17.

Bryan’s last full-length studio effort, 2015’s Kill the Lights, debuted at No. 1 with 345,000 units according to Nielsen Music, of which 320,000 were in traditional album sales. Bryan additional scored No. 1s with both Crash My Party and Spring Break… Here to Party in 2013.

Other albums on course for significant debuts next week include Big Sean and Metro Boomin’s collaborative set Double or Nothing, the compilation album Quality Control: Control the Streets, Vol. 1, Walker Hayes’ Boom, K. Michelle’s Kimberly: The People I Used to Know and Barbra Streisand’s live set The Music… the Mem’ries… the Magic!
