Route 91 Harvest Festival Issues Statement on Las Vegas Shooting

"Senseless violence has claimed the souls of our fans and we have little in the way of answers."

The Route 91 Harvest Festival became the site of tragedy on Sunday, as a gunman opened fire on thousands of concertgoers at the Las Vegas venue, killing at least 59 and injuring over 500 more. On Monday, the festival's organizer, Brian O’Connell, released an emotional statement on Route 91 Harvest’s website and social media accounts.
“On behalf of the entire Route 91 Harvest Family, we are completely devastated by the event that occurred last night.” O'Connell, president of country music touring at Live Nation, opened the statement. “Our deepest sympathies go out to the injured and the deceased and their loved ones. Senseless violence has claimed the souls of our fans and we have little in the way of answers.”
O'Connell went on to thank the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, emergency services, security guards and fans “for their selfless acts of bravery while trying to help those in need.” As well, he vowed that Route 91 Harvest would try to move forward while the team “will never forget this day.”

The statement ended on an emotionally charged note. “We will NOT let hate win over LOVE,” it read. “We will NOT be defeated by senseless violence. We WILL persevere, and honor the souls that were lost. Because it matters.”
The main page for the Route 91 Harvest website directs to O’Connell’s statement. The festival organizers also cleared all of their social media accounts, leaving his statement as the only post on all platforms.
