Twenty-Third Sunday
in Ordinary Time
"Laws of Love"

Johnny Cash
Goin' By The Book

"Heavenly Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit, we ask that you keep and protect all those who are in the path of Hurricane Irma". In Jesus' name we pray.  Amen."

Today's Verse:

             ( Luke 24:45 )

Jesus Appears to his Disciples

Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, "This is what is written: the Messiah must suffer and must rise from death three days later..."

Entrance Hymn:

Let Us Pray

Recite The Doxology:

Glory be to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.  Amen.

Recite The Act of Contrition:

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest in all my sins, not only because of the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but because they offended You, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, do penance, and amend my life.  Amen

Recite The Apostles Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty. Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell, and on the third day he rose again in ful- fillment of the scriptures. He ascended into Heaven and sits at the right side of God the Father Almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.   Amen.

The 1st Reading:

             ( Ezekiel 33:7-9 )

God Appoints Ezekiel as a Lookout

"Now mortal man, I am making you lookout for the nation of Israel. You must pass on to them the warnings I give you. If I announce that an evil person is going to die but you do not warn him to change his ways so that he can save his life, then he will die, still a sinner, and I will hold you responsible for his death. If you do warn an evil person and he doesn't stop sinning, he will die, still a sinner, but your life will be spared."

Alternate 1st Reading:

                ( Psalm 95:1-2, 6-9 )

A Song of Praise

Come, let us praise the Lord! Let us sing for joy to God, who protects us! Let us come before him with thanksgiving and sing joyful songs of praise.
Come, let us bow down and worship him; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! He is our God; we are the people he cares for, the flock for which he provides.
Listen today to what he says: "Don't be stubborn, as your ancestors were at Meribah, as they were that day in the desert at Massah. There they put me to the test and tried me, although they had seen what I did for them."

The 2nd Reading:

            ( Romans 13:8-10 )

Duties Toward One Another

Be under obligation to no one - the only obligation you have is to love one another. Whoever does this has obeyed the Law. The commandments, "Do not commit adultery; do not commit murder; do not steal; do not desire what belongs to someone else" - all these, and any others besides, are summed up in the one command, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." If you love others, you will never do them wrong, to love, then, is to obey the whole Law.

Today's Gospel According to:

                 ( Matthew 18:15-20)

When Someone Sins

"If your brother sins against you," go to him and show him his fault. But do it privately, just between yourselves. If he listens to you, you have won your brother back. But if he will not listen to you, take one or two other persons with you, so that 'every accu-sation may be upheld by the testimony of two or more witnesses,' as scripture says. And if he will not listen to them, then tell the whole thing to the church. Finally, if he will not listen to the church, treat him as though he were a pagan or a tax collector.

Prohibiting and Permitting

"And so I tell all of you: what you prohibit on earth will be pro- hibited in heaven, and what you permit on earth wil be permitted in heaven."
"And I tell you more: whenever two of you on earth agree about anything you pray for, it will be done for you by my Father in heav-en." "For where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them."

This is the word of the Lord

An Interpretation of Today's Readings & Gospel
( By Fr. James McKarns )

During the ministry of Jesus, the Jewish people were supposed to observe 613 religious laws. In the Catholic Church, our current Code of Canon Law lists 1,752 canons. Years ago, the Justice Department of the United States listed about 3,000 individual fed-eral laws.
Jesus simplified all the laws in the world, saying there are only two basic laws: love God and neighbor. Paul told the Romans that "Love is the fulfillment of the law." Today we have thousands of laws. Yet they are ignored and violated by many people, as we know from daily news accounts. We would not need more laws if we would only obey the law of love. I thing we could stand to have a "World Code of Conduct" that could be posted in a million places and would read: "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor. That is the whole law - the rest is commentary. Go and learn."

Recite: The Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it tis in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but, deliver us from evil.  Amen.

May the Peace of the Lord be with You

Recessional Song:

The Following is a Contribution From One
 of the "Country Chapel" Followers:

Believe me He works in mysterious just happened to me.
Highly Recommended:
Read this in silence. Thank you Lord for everything you've done for me. Forgive me for all of my sins as I forgive those who sinned against me. Heal me from the hurt of my past and present. I love You and need You. Cover me, my family, my friends, my life, and my endeavors and enterprises with Your most precious and holy blood. Give me Your dreams, Lord. Bless and protect everyone who seeks You, needs You, and believes in You.
When you love God and you are not ashamed of Him, good things happen in your life. Show your love for him! Copy and paste this on your wall for a day..
Can I get an Amen? Amen!
