Monster Energy Series Bristol race postponed
Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway has been postponed to Monday due to rain. NASCAR officials made the announcement Sunday morning as heavy rain in the area -- and more on the way, according to a bleak radar -- ruled out a Sunday race.
The Food City 500 is now scheduled for 1 p.m. ET Monday with TV coverage on FOX. PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio will provide radio coverage.
This is the first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race impacted by weather this year. In 2016, two races -- both at Pocono Raceway -- were delayed from Sunday until Monday. The 2016 Bristol Night Race, the last Monster Energy Series event at the track, also was delayed a day, from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon/evening.
It has been a weather-watching type of weekend at the "Last Great Colosseum," with rain impacting the schedule on Friday, Saturday and now Sunday.
On Friday, Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series qualifying was washed out due to rain, and Saturday's NASCAR XFINITY Series race was delayed during Stage 2 because of rain.
With Monster Energy Series qualifying canceled, the lineup is set via owner points, meaning Kyle Larson will start first when we get underway tomorrow. Fellow young gun Chase Elliott is second, followed by Martin Truex Jr., Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano. See the full lineup here.
