Butch Trucks Died of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound
Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks’ death Tuesday (Jan. 24) in West Palm Beach, Florida, was an apparent suicide, the Miami Herald reports.
According to the newspaper, Trucks’ wife of 25 years was present when the 69-year-old musician shot himself in the head with a pistol at their downtown condo.
The case is still under investigation. Law enforcement authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy performed Wednesday by the Palm Beach County medical examiner’s office.
As a member of the Allman Brothers Band, Claude Hudson “Butch” Trucks was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. He co-founded the Allman Brothers Band in 1969 with Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Jai “Jaimoe” Johnny Johanson and the late Duane Allman and Berry Oakley. Trucks played in all its configurations until the group disbanded in 2014.
