Today's Verse:

                ( Acts 17:29 )

In Athens

Since we are God's children, we should not suppose that his na-ture is anything like an image of gold or silver or stone, shaped by human art and skill.

Entrance Hymn:

Let Us Pray

Recite The Doxology:

Glory be to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.  Amen.

Recite The Act of Contrition:

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest in all my sins, not only because of the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but because they offended You, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, do penance, and amend my life.  Amen.

Recite The Apostles Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty. Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell, and on the third day he rose again in ful- fillment of the scriptures. He ascended into Heaven and sits at the right side of God the Father Almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.   Amen.

The 1st Reading:

               ( Daniel 7:13-14 )

The Vision of the One who has Been Living Forever

During this vision in the night, I saw what looked like a human being. He was approaching me, surrounded by clouds, and went to the one who had been living forever and was presented to him. He was given authority, honor, and royal power, so that the people of all nations, races, and languages would serve him. His authority would last forever, and his kingdom would never end.

Alternate 1st Reading:

                 ( Psalm 93:1-2, 5 )

Song of Praise

Come, let us praise the Lord! Let us sing for joy to God, who protects us! Let us come before him with thanksgiving and sing joyful songs of praise.
He rules over the sea, which he made; the land also, which he himself formed.

The 2nd Reading:

              ( Revelation 1:5-8 )

Greetings to the Seven Churches

And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the first to be raised from death and who is also ruler of the kings of the world.
He loves us, and by his sacrificial death he has freed us from our sins and made us a kingdom of priests to serve his God and Father. To Jesus Christ be the glory and power forever and ever. Amen.
Look, he is coming on the clouds! Everyone will see him, in-cluding those who pierced him. All people on earth will mourn over him. So shall it be!
"I am the first and the last," says the Lord God Almighty, who is, who was, and who is yet to come."

Today's Gospel According to:

                   ( John 18:33-37 )

Jesus before Pilate

Pilate replied, "Do you think I am a Jew? It was your own peo-ple and the chief priests who handed you over to me. What have you done?"
Jesus said, "My kingdom does not belong to this world; if my kingdom belonged to this world, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish authorities. No, my kingdom does not belong here!"
So Pilate asked him, "Are you a king, then?"

This is the word of the Lord

An Interpretation of Today's Readings & Gospel

( By Sr. Joyce Rupp, O.S.M. )

Ancient One, this designation of your endless presence was born in the heart of the prophet Daniel and placed upon his lips. He realized that your essence existed before the universe took shape, before your word gathered matter and gave it form. Ancient One, as our strongest ally and surest guide, wee need your graced wisdom as much as Daniel did in his era of violence and injustice. Remind us often of how your expansive love found a welcoming home in humanity of Jesus. On this feast, when we recognize his reign over our hearts, stir within us the love you have seeded at the core of who we are. Encourage us to reflect his goodness by who we are and what we do. May our allegiance to Christ the King enlarge and deepen our faithful commitment to activate his teachings.

Recite: The Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it tis in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but, deliver us from evil. Amen.

May the Peace of the Lord be with You
