Today's Verse:

           ( Deuteronomy 16:17 )

The Festival of Shelters

Each man is to bring a gift as he is able, in proportion to the blessings that the Lord your God has given him.

Entrance Hymn:

Let Us Pray

Recite The Doxology:

Glory be to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.  Amen.

Recite The Act of Contrition:

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest in all my sins, not only because of the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but because they offended You, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, do penance, and amend my life.  Amen.

Recite The Apostles Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty. Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell, and on the third day he rose again in ful- fillment of the scriptures. He ascended into Heaven and sits at the right side of God the Father Almighty. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting.   Amen.

The 1st Reading:
Some Bibles Might Not have this Book and Verses

             (Wisdom 2:12, 17-20 )
Wisdom of Solomon

Wicked Thinking

Righteous people are nothing but a nuisance, so let's for chan-ces to get rid of them. They are against what we do; they accuse us of breaking the Law Of Moses and violating the traditions of our ancestors.
But we'll see if that's true! Let's see what will happen when it's time for them to die! If the righteous really are God's children, God will save them from their enemies. So let's put them to the test. We'll be cruel to them, and torment them; then we'll find out how calm and reasonable they are! We'll find out just how much they can stand! We'll condemn them to a shameful death. After all, they say that God will protect them.

Alternate 1st Reading:

          ( Psalm 54:3-7 )

A Prayer for Protection from Enemies

Proud people are coming to attack me; cruel people are trying to kill me - those who do not care about God. But God is my helper. The Lord is my defender. May God use their own evil to punish my enemies. He will destroy them because he is faithful.
I will gladly offer you a sacrifice, O Lord; I will give you thanks because you are good. You have rescued me from all my troubles, and I have seen my enemies defeated.

The 2nd Reading:

              ( James 3:16 - 4:3 )

The Wisdom from Above
Where there is jealousy and selfishness, there is also disorder and every kind of evil. But the wisdom from above is pure first of all; it is also peaceful, gentle and friendly; it is fullof compassion and produces a harvest of good deeds; it is free from prejudice and hypocrisy. And goodness is the harvest that is produced from the seeds the peacemakers plant in peace.

Friendship with the World

Where do all the fights and quarrels among you come from? They come from your desires for pleasure, which are constantly fighting within you. You want things, but you cannot have them, so you are ready to kill; you strongly desire things, but you cannot get them, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have what you want be-cause you do not ask God for it. And when you ask, you do not re-ceive it, becaue you motives are bad; you ask for things to use for your own pleasures.

Today's Gospel According to:

             ( Mark 9:30-37 )

Jesus Speaks Again about His Death

Jesus and his disciples left that place and went on through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where he was, because he was teaching his disciples; {The Son of Man will be handed over to those who will kill him. Three days later, however, he will rise to life."
But they did not understand what this teaching meant, and they were afraid to ask him.

Who is the Greatest?

They came to Capernaum, and after going indoors Jesus asked his disciples, "What were you arguing about on the road?"
But they would not answer him, because on the road they had been arguing among themselves about who was the greatest. Jesus sat down, called the twelve disciples, and said to them, "Whoever wants to be first must place himself last of all and be the servant of all." Then he took a child and had him stand in front of them. He put his arms around him and said to them, "Whoever welcomes in my name one of these children, welcomes me, welcomes not only me but also the one who sent me."

This is the word of the Lord

An Interpretation of Today's Readings & Gospel
( By Sr. Macrina Wiederkehr, O.S.B. )

Chaos and disease are companions of disorder. These are not the gifts we seek, yet each of us has probably experienced their detrimental power in our lives. In your prayer today, take a long, Honest look at your enemies of peace. What kind of chaos exists in your life that you would like to replace with the gifts that wisdom brings?
Wisdom come from above, James says. It is peaceable and gen-tle - filled with mercy and all sorts of good fruits. What are the good fruits that wisdom brings?
Wars within and without do not come from wisdom. The con-flicts among us and within us often come from making wrong choices. Perhaps if we would prayerfully listen to our conflicts, trying to discern what they need, we would know how to pray and what to ask for in our prayer.
O Prince of Peace, may all wars and conflicts cease!

Recite: The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it tis in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but, deliver us from evil. Amen.

May the Peace of the Lord be with You
